Address

A place where cryptocurrency can be sent to and from, in the form of a string of letters and numbers.

Airdrop

A marketing campaign that distributes a specific cryptocurrency or token to an audience.

Altcoin

All cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, termed as "alternative coins."

ASIC

An application-specific integrated circuit designed for the sole purpose of mining cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin

The first cryptocurrency that captured the world’s imagination, used as a benchmark for others.

Blockchain

A distributed ledger system, a sequence of blocks storing digital information consecutively, the basis for cryptocurrencies.

Block Reward

The coins awarded to a miner or group of miners for solving the cryptographic problem to create a new block.

Cold Wallet

A cryptocurrency wallet that is in cold storage, not connected to the internet.

Consensus Mechanism

The underlying technology behind blockchain functionalities, essential for all cryptocurrencies to achieve agreement.

Digital currencies that use cryptographic technologies to secure their operation.

DeFi

A movement encouraging alternatives to traditional, centralized forms of financial services.

DEX

DApp

Fiat

Legal tender backed by a central government, such as physical cash or electronic bank credit.

Gas

The fee required to successfully conduct a transaction or execute a contract on the Ethereum network.

HODL

A term used by cryptocurrency enthusiasts to mean "Hold On for Dear Life," referring to holding onto investments despite market volatility.

Hot Wallet

A cryptocurrency wallet connected to the internet for easy access and transactions.

Mining

The process of validating transactions and adding them to the blockchain, often involving solving complex cryptographic puzzles.

NFT

Non-fungible tokens, unique digital assets representing ownership of specific items or content, often on Ethereum.

Node

A computer connected to a cryptocurrency network, maintaining a copy of the blockchain and participating in validation.

Private Key

A secret code that allows a cryptocurrency user to access and manage their funds.

Proof of Stake (PoS)

A consensus mechanism where validators are chosen based on the number of coins they hold and are willing to 'stake.'

Proof of Work (PoW)

A consensus mechanism requiring miners to solve complex mathematical problems to validate transactions and add blocks.

Public Key

A cryptographic code that allows users to receive cryptocurrencies, derived from the private key but publicly shareable.

Smart Contract

Self-executing contracts with the terms directly written into code, running on a blockchain.

Stablecoin

A cryptocurrency designed to maintain a stable value, often pegged to a fiat currency like the US dollar.

Token

A digital asset representing a specific value or utility within a blockchain ecosystem, often used for transactions or incentives.

Wallet

A software or hardware tool that stores private and public keys, used to send, receive, and manage cryptocurrencies.

Whale

A person or entity holding a large amount of cryptocurrency, capable of influencing market prices with their trades.

Whitepaper

A document released by a cryptocurrency project, detailing its purpose, technology, and implementation.
